Comic book reviews with spoilers

It has been a very long time since I wrote any reviews.  In fact, if I look back, the last real review I did was for Spider-man: Homecoming.

So I think it’s only fitting that I start with Spiderman again.  For the time being, there will some reviews that encompass multiple issues while other will be single issue reviews.  Spidey will encompass multiple issues.

1.  Amazing Spider-Man Sins Rising Spidey has been up against a villain I’ve not seen before.  His name is Sin-Eater and he has taken it upon himself to “heal” villains by removing their powers.  The biggest problem:  he’s not just healing them, he’s stealing their powers and making them his own.  In addition, he’s created an army by convincing them his cause is righteous.

The story itself has taken a different direction that surprised me a bit,  Spidey has decided to save Norman Osborn from Sin Eater.  What makes this such a strange choice is that a few years ago Mr. Osborn found a way to take over Peter’s body and for a while up ended Peter’s life by becoming him.

Another twist is that Peter’s spider friends( Spider Gwen and Spider
Woman, and Miles Morales) have all had visions of Peter’s death at the hands of Norman
Osborn and want to stop Peter from protecting Norman.

My thoughts:

1.  Sin Eater is very creepy.  He has the look of the mummy, complete with bugs, and the more powerful he becomes the scarier he gets.

2. My only beef with the storyline is how his armies are dressed.  Instead of being incredibly original it feels like DC’s Red Hood Gang with a different color.

All in all, this has been a fun series.  There are times where the writing has been a little underwhelming but, for the most part, it’s been very enjoyable.  Grade:  B.
